A delegation of Gender Concerns International and the Gender Election Observation Mission (GEOM), consisting of Ms. Bano, Mr. Romer, Mr. Tida and Ms. Boxum, met with and presented the GEOM Final Report to the Department of Democracy of the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. The Department of Democracy was represented by Mr. Stokkink, Head of Department, and Mr. Akse, Coordinating Policy Officer Elections/Referenda. This meeting was a follow-up to the formal presentation of the GEOM Report to the Commission of Internal Affairs of the Dutch Parliament.
To mark the 100 years of women’s suffrage in the Netherlands, the mission assessed the electoral participation of women by observing Election Day proceedings. Based on a thorough observation, the GEOM report presents recommendations addressed to the government, political parties, Parliament, the Election Council and the media.
Gender Concerns International hopes that the GEOM Report will lead to an engaged and fruitful cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations as well as other stakeholders in pursuance of our future work.
