Gender Concerns International has been active in the MENA region for a number of years, working to achieve conditions which enable a gender-inclusive and equal society. Gender Concerns International has cooperated with many organisations for women’s empowerment in Morocco, notably the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) and the People’s Rights Centre (CDG). Furthermore, Gender Concerns International has worked closely together with its partner organisations in their struggle against gender inequality and has initiated activities to support the representation of women in the political and democratic processes of the country.
In September 2015, nation-wide municipal elections took place in Morocco. This historic event was observed by the Gender Election Observation Mission (GEOM) of Gender Concerns International. The elections in September 2015 showed more improvements in the democratic process and the participation of women. Gender Concerns International is hopeful for continued progress in women’s inclusion and political participation moving forward.
