The 31st of October marks the 24th anniversary of the United Nations Security Council adopting Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security. The resolution puts importance on the role of women in conflict prevention, women's participation in peacebuilding, the protection of the rights of women and girls during and after the armed conflict, and women's specific needs during reparations, resettlement and for rehabilitation, reintegration and post-conflict reconstruction.
Landmark Resolution 1325, and additional resolutions that came into force after, are promoting the change of the gender-blind international responses to conflicts to gender-sensitive ones where women play an important role in peacebuilding and peacekeeping operations.
