Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Gender Concerns International

The core objective of ‘Recognition, Respect, and Resources’ for women and their organisations has been central for the last twenty years. As a four-time signatory to the Dutch National Action Plan on UNSCR 1325, the organisation has championed women’s inclusion in governance from Afghanistan to Morocco. Its commitment to global female leadership in democratic parity and environmental decision-making remains strong.

With 2 billion women set to participate in elections this year, 2024 presents both a challenge and an opportunity to strengthen democracy and restore public trust. The magnitude of this election year necessitates a united effort to address gender disparities. The organisation urges global leaders and civil society to prioritise and support the elevation of women as candidates, ensuring political landscapes are reshaped to be genuinely representative and equitable.
